Community and economic development works best when the desired economy is crafted with significant input from the people who will live and work in local communities. That is why One Fire focuses on community needs, values, and desires as identified through input from all members of a tribal community. The intent is to enhance understanding, encourage dialogue and consensus, and create awareness of the complexities of the issues that impact and inhibit tribal economic development. This creates a shared vision that drives choices about economic activities that best fit the needs of a tribal community.  Without community buy-in, development becomes difficult to achieve and nearly impossible to sustain.
